Omani delegates visit ESB and ESB International Headquarters
In November 2019 and January 2020 ESB International welcomed Oman Power and Water Procurement Company and NAMA Holding to their headquarters in Dublin. OPWP is the single buyer of electricity in Oman and ESB International has been providing a supervisory role to OPWP since 2016.
Nama Holding is a joint stock company holding shares in ten companies involved in the procurement, generation, transmission, supply and distribution of electricity and water related services, covering the needs of the entire country of Oman. It holds 99.99% of the shares of the Government in eight subsidiary companies in the electricity sector. Strategically they are a very important client for ESB International considering Oman’s current and projected future role in our success in the Middle Eastern region.
From 18th to 22nd November, ESB International welcomed OPWP to take part in Project Delivery Model (PDM) training. This is the first time ESB International presented the Project Management Office to an external client. The training was bespoke to OPWPs needs including case studies and advise on how PDM can be applied to OPWP projects. An example of application of PDM – Grousemount wind farm was followed by a site visit where the delegates got to see the scale of the project including the difficult terrain and Irish weather conditions!
Evident to the success of the PDM training last November NAMA Holding joined OPWP at ESB head office on 28th January. The delegates were greeted by Pat O’Doherty, CEO ESB, Nicholas Tarrant, Executive Director, Engineering and Major Projects, and Sean Atkinson, Managing Director, ESB International.
Their schedule included a visit to the Wind Control Room and Trading Floor in Gateway Two. ESB shared their experiences related to delivering sustainability targets, introducing and embedding renewable and distributed generation into an existing value chain and the challenges involved in transitioning to a single energy market.
We are driven in our commitment to clients in the Middle East market and it is crucial for customers to witness the company behind (ESB Group) the ESB International team.
Considering ESB’s experience as a vertically integrated utility across generation, transmission, distribution and customer supply, and our ongoing delivery of our Brighter Future Strategy, this visit was a great opportunity to discuss common challenges and solutions related to Oman’s journey towards a sustainable future. Positioning ESB and ESB International as a thought leader in the transition to a low-carbon world.
